All solving the wrong problem...until the real constraint became visible. Read more about their results here:* [*\[The Evidence\]*](/evidence)*.* I've trained across coaching, consulting, and therapy, but I don't practise any of them in isolation. Twenty-five years building businesses. Fifteen working with founders on strategy and execution. Thousands of hours in conversations most advisors never have. The work sits where those disciplines meet: commercial reality, psychological structure, and the questions that don't resolve cleanly. That's where friction lives. That's where this work operates. I've trained across coaching, consulting, and therapy, but I don't practise any of them in isolation. You’re not stuck because you lack ideas, effort, or intelligence. What's happening is more subtle, you keep running into the same problems, but in different forms. To anyone observing, none of this looks like a crisis. While you might look busy, you're circling the same issues and you keep arriving back at the same place. You don’t feel frustrated because *nothing* is happening. You feel frustrated because things *are* happening, but nothing is changing. What you're experiencing has a name: **Strategic Friction™.** It's the invisible tax you pay when the strategy you’re trying to run doesn’t match how you actually operate. I work with people who are overpaying that tax every day, usually without realising it. The underlying cause is a hidden **structural misalignment**. A mismatch between how the business is designed and how the you actual function. Until that misalignment is made visible, effort keeps increasing while results don’t. The most expensive problem in your business is the one you can’t see. *Learn about the three forms of Strategic Friction™* [*here.*](/diagnostic) Courses, frameworks, advisors, maybe even therapy or coaching. That's because most solutions assume the problem can be solved by getting you to do more, and therefore, prescribe the following: But when effort keeps increasing and results don’t, the problem is rarely through a lack of trying. I don’t sell frameworks, systems, or step-by-step methods. I don’t help you “push through” resistance or optimise performance. When that conflict remains unseen, no amount of motivation or optimisation resolves it. It’s about removing the invisible drag that’s been distorting everything downstream. There is no curriculum, no sequence of modules, and no accountability system designed to push you forward. I’m not here to build funnels, write copy, or hand you a positioning framework. We’re not revisiting your past unless it directly explains a present-day constraint affecting performance. My methodology, **Aletheia Performance™**, is based on the ancient Greek idea of truth as *unconcealment,* not correctness, but visibility. [*(explore more here)*](/evolution) In practical terms, the work is straightforward. Make the **real constraints** visible. Once they are, execution stops being a 'willpower' problem. Decisions lighten and the next moves becomes obvious. A single, intensive session designed to deliver one outcome: A **clear diagnosis** of where your strategy and how you actually operate are misaligned, and what that means for the **next 30–90 days of decisions and action**. This is not exploratory. It's not a preview or a sample. For some, it resolves the core constraint in a single engagement. For others, it becomes the foundation for deeper work. Across hundreds of diagnostics, three recurring forms of Strategic Friction appear. Most people experience one as the primary constraint, often with elements of the others. The strategy requires a version of you that isn’t sustainable. Positioning looks right on paper but breaks down in execution. Marketing feels forced or avoided. Business models generate revenue but drain energy. Momentum is possible short-term, but never compounds. **Result:** inconsistent execution and growth that resets instead of building. Momentum and motivation fade. The strategy is built on assumptions the business can’t support. Plans rely on optimistic capacity, time, or resources. They are aimed at the business you think you should have, not the one you actually run. Known constraints are worked around rather than addressed. **Result:** stalled execution, repeated bottlenecks, and frustration that no amount of effort resolves. Pricing, positioning, or structural changes are clear, yet delayed. Decisions are revisited instead of executed. Fear of judgement overrides logic. You know that you need to make a change, but don't feel you can. **Result:** artificial ceilings, prolonged plateaus, and growth constrained by hesitation rather than aligned effort. They are **structural mismatches** between the strategy, the business reality, and the human required to execute it. Until that mismatch is **diagnosed**, execution will continue to leak, regardless of intelligence or effort. *(These frictions stem from patterns like those outlined on the* [*home page*](/home)*)* It creates **persistent business conflicts** that quietly tax revenue, decision quality, and momentum. Running **a strategy that fights you**, the operator, **consumes attention, confidence, and energy** every day. These conflicts persist because their source remains unexamined. Once the underlying friction is made visible, decision-making simplifies, resistance drops, and execution resumes. This work does not. It starts with **The Empty Chair.** There is no preset agenda, framework, or methodology you must fit into. You bring your actual situation to chair: stalled decisions, strategies you understand but can’t execute, or a business that performs externally but feels internally constraining. We work with **your real data -** your words, numbers, history, and behavioural patterns, to surface the hidden structure shaping your outcomes. Clarity is what restores decision authority, reduces internal resistance, and allows execution to resume without constant force or burnout. *(Read about the methodology, Aletheia Performance,* [*here*](/evolution)*)* The **Strategic Friction Diagnostic** is built around your situation. Your business, your decisions, and the specific way progress has stalled. This is about removing friction, not adding more thinking. These are not generic recommendations. They follow directly from the diagnosis. This step exists to ensure clarity converts into action, not just insight. Full details of the process, example deliverables, and pricing are outlined in the **Diagnostic Brief.** Outcomes - What Happens When The Friction Is Removed The specific outcomes vary by person, business and the depth of work. However, the same shifts show up repeatedly once the underlying friction is identified and removed. *"I've gained full clarity when before I was in a haze. This has been one of the best decisions and investments I've ever made. Complete transformation."* *"Mark completely opened my eyes and skilfully pulled out everything I'd been thinking about for years. He's an absolute genius at what he does and it's life changing stuff."* *"You won't come across someone easily who will be straight up with you and call you out on your BS whilst still being compassionate and non-judgemental. This is an investment that will change your life."* You are an expert, advisor, consultant, or founder whose judgment, experience, and decision-making materially affect results. The business does not run independently of you. You have real operating experience. You have made decisions, taken risks, tried approaches, and seen outcomes. There is sufficient behavioural and performance data to analyse. You have spent time, money, or both on personal and professional improvement. You are not seeking fundamentals or surface-level instruction. **Standard frameworks have failed to translate into results** You have tried methodologies that worked for others but did not hold up under your real operating conditions. Execution failed not due to ignorance, but misfit. **You recognise the constraint is internal and structural** You suspect the recurring block originates in how you operate, decide, or relate to the business, but you cannot clearly locate the mechanism. If you are looking for a repeatable system, template, or step-by-step implementation guide, this is the wrong intervention. This is diagnostic work, not a packaged methodology. This work does not provide accountability structures, encouragement, or emotional reinforcement. It provides clarity. Execution remains your responsibility. Without real decisions, actions, and outcomes, there is insufficient data to diagnose. If you have not yet tested ideas in the real world, this work will not be useful. The diagnostic requires naming contradictions, blind spots, and structural conflicts directly. If agreement or validation is the primary requirement, this is not a fit. **If you want insight without consequence, this work will frustrate you.** The Diagnostic will surface constraints that imply real changes to pricing, positioning, structure, boundaries, or identity. If you are not willing to make decisions that may disrupt your current equilibrium, clarity will not help. This is strategic diagnostic work, not transformation theatre. I am not a magician. A single session will not rebuild a business overnight or resolve years of complexity in two hours. Once this clarity is achieved, next steps are no longer a matter of willpower or discipline. They become a matter of judgment. The friction is named, the direction is clear, and no further involvement is required. For others, the Diagnostic reveals that implementation would benefit from additional support, either short-term integration or longer-term advisory. Both outcomes are valid. There is no embedded upsell. Only an honest assessment of what will actually improve execution. By the end of the session, which path makes sense will be **self-evident**. Enter your first name and email address below to receive access to the brief. *Currently accepting a limited number of Diagnostic clients each month.* Read client case studies and feedback to gain an insight into the work. It’s moved through distinct phases, marked by change, tension, and a long search for alignment between who I was and how I was living. Growing up in a home shaped by alcohol changes how you relate to the world. When the environment is unstable, you learn quickly that paying attention matters. To read the room. To notice what wasn’t being said. To sense shifts before they surfaced. In unpredictable environments, observation isn’t a personality trait. It’s a survival skill. Over time, it became something else: an ability to notice patterns beneath behaviour, and contradictions between what people say they want and what their actions reveal. Seen through that lens, the work I do now isn’t accidental. It’s the expression of a way of seeing that was formed early and refined over decades. At eighteen, I met my first mentor and was introduced to the world of personal development. Like many people who take that path seriously, I applied what I learned diligently to building a business, navigating relationships, and dealing with loss. I optimised habits. I worked on mindset. I measured progress against the usual milestones. But at the peak of my efforts, the data stopped lining up. The problem wasn’t effort or commitment. It was that I was trying to resolve an internal misalignment using **external metrics.** No matter how much I optimised performance or refined strategy, the gap I was trying to close didn’t shrink. It simply reappeared in a new form. That’s when it became clear: the tools I was using weren’t wrong, they were just designed for a different problem. Most of what passes for self-help or performance improvement operates as prescription. It assumes the system is fundamentally sound and needs better inputs: better habits, better thinking, better execution. Those prescriptions could only ever treat the symptoms. They would reliably return me to the same breaking point, regardless of how well I applied them. This realisation changed the direction of my work and my attention. I stopped looking for better prescriptions and started looking for **better explanations.** That search took me into places most business work never goes. I studied theology and philosophy. Existential thought. Lacanian theory. Frameworks concerned less with answers and more with **how meaning, identity, and desire actually operate**, especially when things don’t resolve cleanly. At the same time, I trained in therapeutic and performance modalities. Cognitive and behavioural approaches. Third-wave methods that work with acceptance, values, and commitment, not just thought correction or behaviour change. Alternative performance models that focused on what blocks action, not how to force it. It was an attempt to understand why capable people, myself included, could see what needed to change and still not change it. I went further into my own experience, and into the lived realities of my clients. Beyond surface problems and stated goals, into the structures underneath them. In one form or another, I’ve spent most of my life sitting in what I now call **the empty chair.** Staying with what’s uncomfortable long enough for something real to appear. That stance, more than any framework, shaped the work that followed. Today, my work is grounded in experience gained through: Along the way, I trained and obtained credentials in many modalities and disciplines. But I don’t practise any of them in isolation. I move between commercial strategy, psychological insight, and philosophical inquiry as the situation requires. Sometimes within the same conversation, sometimes within the same moment. Because real problems don’t arrive neatly categorised. I hold the credentials of a consultant, a coach, and a therapist, but I don’t accept the limits of any one of those roles. I help people resolve the structural friction that singular approaches can’t reach. The conflicts that sit beneath strategy, beneath mindset, and beneath behaviour. Over thousands of hours, I’ve sat in deep, often uncomfortable conversations with professionals at every level of success. Some have already “won”. They built the business, reached the status, achieved the outcome they were aiming for, only to realise, too late, that it was the wrong game for them entirely. Pushing. Forcing. Straining against resistance they can’t name. Trying to execute strategies that look right on paper but feel wrong in practice. It’s Strategic Friction™ and it requires diagnosing. [\[Explore The Diagnostic->\]](/diagnostic) Aletheia is the ancient Greek concept of truth as *unconcealment*. It differs fundamentally from the modern idea of truth as factual correctness. It is to reveal the specific **truth about how you operate**, and where that truth has been obscured. To make visible the structural conflicts shaping your decisions, behaviour, and results. The ones you cannot see from inside the system you’re operating. Aletheia Performance™ is a diagnostic methodology that works by using your observable performance as data: These aren’t interpreted psychologically or judged morally. When the structure becomes visible, something predictable happens. The experience of being “stuck” dissolves. Not because effort increases, but because resistance no longer needs to be managed. The next strategic steps become clear and stop requiring force. I work with a small number of clients at any given time. Some come for a single Diagnostic and leave with what they needed. Others stay longer, as the work deepens and the questions evolve. There is only what makes sense for you, now, given where you are and what the situation requires. If this work resonates, the next step is simply to explore the Diagnostic. And it doesn’t show you **what actually changed in the way decisions were made or action was taken.** Instead of short endorsements, you’ll see material designed to show the work in action. The point of this page isn’t just to show outcomes, though those are here. What matters more is the **pattern** you’ll see repeated across very different people and situations: The gap between what someone initially believed their problem was and what the Diagnostic revealed was actually driving the results. Additional case studies, examples, and client feedback are included in the **Strategic Friction Diagnostic Brief**, which you can download at the bottom of this page. James earned six figures a year working two days a week from home. He had a girlfriend, kids he adored, and complete control over his schedule. He couldn't stop feeling like he was getting away with something. Every morning started with a low hum of anxiety. He'd sit down at his desk knowing he'd finish his client work in a few hours, then spend the rest of the day feeling guilty about not working more. He bought course after course, convinced the next one would unlock whatever was missing. He'd get excited, start the modules, then abandon them when they required actual effort. The fantasy of building something was more compelling than building it. He knew exactly what he was doing. That was the worst part. He could articulate the pattern with perfect clarity, watch himself repeat it, and feel powerless to stop. I introduced a framework that sounds abstract but lands hard when you're ready for it: the difference between seeking the secret that will make you whole, and accepting that the feeling of lack is permanent. It's baked into existence itself. James had been treating his anxiety as a problem to solve. What if it wasn't a problem? What if the endless seeking was the problem, and the lack was just the human condition? I asked him to listen back to the recording. Not to understand it, but to let it work on him. We ran the numbers on his life. Two days of work. Six-figure income. Time with his kids whenever he wanted. I asked him a question: *If I hired you to do exactly what you're doing now, same hours, same pay, same freedom. Would you feel guilty?* So the only difference between peace and anxiety was permission. He was living the life, but nobody had told him it was allowed. "You're producing *The James Show*," I said. "All this drama about being stuck. The guilt, the courses, the anxiety. It's more entertaining than just accepting you've already won." He couldn't explain it. He used the word "lightness." More patient with his kids. More assertive with clients. The catastrophising that had been background noise for years had gone quiet. I asked who was watching in his fantasies of success. When he imagined the bigger business, the passive income, the freedom he supposedly didn't have. Who was the audience? The insight landed: everything he'd been chasing was a performance for someone who didn't exist. An imaginary authority he was trying to impress. His father, maybe. Society. Some version of success he'd absorbed without choosing it. "What if there's nobody watching?" I asked. "What if you stopped performing?" He described the feeling as "nothing." No charge around work. No anxiety about whether he was doing enough. No need to prove anything. That might sound like emptiness. It's actually freedom. I suggested we skip the next session. He didn't need more to think about. He needed to live in the new space without analysing it. When we reconnected, the shift had held. Better with his kids. Taking action on things he'd procrastinated for months. Not because he'd found motivation, but because the resistance had dissolved. The work wasn't finished. His philosophical breakthrough was stable but his business decisions were still a mess. He was accepting terrible deals, building other people's businesses for pennies because he hadn't learned to value what he offered. That became the next phase: not existential work but tactical. How to evaluate opportunities. How to negotiate. How to stop accepting whatever was offered and start asking for what he was worth. Different problem. Same relationship. The work adapts to where you are. The morning anxiety disappeared. Not managed, not reduced. Gone. He stopped buying courses and started acting on what he already knew. The guilt about working only two days dissolved once he gave himself permission to design his life that way. His relationships with his kids improved because he was present instead of performing productivity. *"Nothing's changed but everything's changed. I can't explain it. It doesn't make sense. But the weight is gone."* Guilt, anxiety, inability to enjoy success, course addiction Seeking permission from an external authority that doesn't exist. Performing for an imaginary audience instead of living. When he saw the audience wasn't real, the performance stopped. The anxiety wasn't solved, it was revealed as unnecessary. Morning anxiety gone. Present with family. Taking action without resistance. Eighteen months of procrastination cleared in weeks. How were you feeling?** Before we started working together, my business had zero structure. I had a false sense of confidence through believing strategies or ways of working were either right or wrong. I wouldn't even consider giving other options out of fear of them falling into the "bad" category. To be honest, I just felt lost. I felt so stuck in this lens of seeing things as right or wrong, which actually just kept me frozen in a space where I couldn't move forward. I also felt incredibly scared. I felt like this from day one of starting my business, but I also realised that all of my beliefs and ways of thinking have been (somewhat) carrying me my whole life. I've always been scared to test the waters out of fear of it being the wrong thing to do, and stuck within "safe" parameters which were keeping me above water, but not letting me live in a way that I wanted. I really liked your simple, no BS approach. I worked with a few people 1:1 for a variety of reasons, and I really love 1:1 work, but I was tired of fluffy conversation, and paying people who still held back from being straight with me when it came to what was holding me back. **It's because the thing that was holding me back was me, and a lot of people find it difficult to articulate that to a client.** **Q. What has happened since we started working together? What changes have you experienced?** My business has taken a lot of turns. I've landed an opportunity that could potentially turbo boost my business growth. My quarter goal was to obtain 20 new clients, and I've reached 40. My confidence in what I can achieve has also turbo boosted. I actually believe that I can achieve amazing things, and I'm ready for opportunities to manifest out of making a structured plan, and to accept and roll with the opportunities that come out of left field. The best way I can explain it is that I feel that I have expanded. I now understand what true growth feels like. **Q. What are the biggest lessons you have learnt during our time together?** **Q. What would you say to others considering reaching out to me?** Just do it. You won't come across someone easily who will be straight up with you and call you out on your BS whilst still being compassionate and non-judgemental. **This is an investment that will change your life.** Honestly, just thank you so much. I couldn't imagine, or would want to work with anyone else. Sophie had spent weeks going in circles when she approached me. Her task appeared simple enough: decide how to position her business and who to target. She'd stared at the question until it paralysed her. Every time she landed on an answer, she immediately saw reasons it was wrong. Too narrow. Too broad. Not quite right. "I got stuck," she said. "I was going round in circles for days, then I just froze for weeks." She'd recently qualified in a new field and was trying to build a business around her expertise. She had the credentials. She had real experience. She had everything except the ability to make a decision and move. She kept bouncing between options. Each time she chose a direction, she'd immediately find problems with it. "I want to help this group," she'd say. "But then I think, what about this other group? And maybe I should focus on this instead." "You're trying to fit yourself into a box. But you don't fit. That's not a problem with your positioning, that's the consequence of you trying to hide." The real problem wasn't indecision. It was fear. She was scared of being visible as herself, so she kept searching for a framework that would let her avoid it. She'd been hiding behind her qualifications and tools, using them as a shield against having to show up as herself. Something shifted when we stopped talking about positioning frameworks and started talking about her actual life. She'd moved abroad on her own ten years ago. She knew what it felt like to arrive somewhere new full of excitement and then, a few years in, find yourself wondering: *Is this it?* Listening to the passion in her voice as she shared her story, the solution was obvious. "What you're really want to help people with," I said, "isn't a methodology. It's the thing you've actually lived." She went quiet. Then: "Yes. That's it. I know that's true. I just didn't thing that was possible." The answer she'd been searching for wasn't in a framework. It was in her own experience. The very thing she'd been trying to hide was the thing that made her valuable. We mapped out what she was actually offering. Not the technical thing everyone else was selling. Something specific that came from her own journey. Now playing the game she wanted to play, instead of watching from the sidelines. The perfectionism that had frozen her for weeks started to dissolve once she stopped trying to fit herself into a framework designed for others, and started speaking from what she'd actually lived. "You just need to be you," I told her. "Stop trying to be like what you've seen elsewhere. If you really want to help people, you've got to show up as yourself. That's what actually works." Sophie force herself into the neat boxes the marketing frameworks insisted on. The paralysis broke when she recognised that her own experience was exactly what provided the value, not the credentials she'd been hiding behind. The positioning she'd been searching for was the life she'd been living. *"Every decision was tangled up. Now I can see it's not about the frameworks or the methodology. It's about me and what I've actually been through."* Paralysed trying to make a decision. Weeks frozen. Perfectionism blocking all progress. Hiding behind credentials and frameworks instead of showing up as herself. Using expertise as a shield against being visible. Trying to fit her messy human experience into neat professional boxes. Overthinking as avoidance. Each option generated reasons it was wrong. The perfectionism wasn't about getting it right, it was about not having to choose, not having to be seen. When she stopped talking about frameworks and started talking about her own experience, the answer became obvious. She wasn't searching for a positioning strategy. She was avoiding the vulnerability of being herself. Clarity that her own experience was her qualification. Permission to stop hiding behind credentials and start showing up as a human. Understanding that the reality of her own life was the value, not something to be hidden. Paralysed trying to make a decision. It has taken me a full seven days to recognise that the struggle to write an honest, reflective piece very closely mirrors the process we spent months working through together. Not to be put off, to give up, abandon the task or convince myself that the excuses I told myself are the whole truth: "I'm too busy," "the kids were ill," "something came up with work." To let go of the belief that it shouldn't be this hard. That others will produce something better, much more easily and quickly. To just get on with the task, without judging it for how it should feel, or how it should work out, or what it means, or judging myself for not finding it easier. I came to you with much the same problem: *Help me shape my unformed ideas into something that other people will recognise in themselves and buy into.* I told myself a lot of excuses for not getting it done and the time marched on. It wasn't the fact that the work was going to be hard that kept derailing me. It was that I hadn't acknowledged the t*ype of hard* that I can do, and will do consistently. The hard things that I've been doing all my life and all through my career, but never recognised or valued. Leaning into that, acknowledging what I was resisting and being completely open to who I am, what I love and what I'm good at, everything started to fall into place after that. I think that, in a nutshell, is what this has been about. The Matrix references came in somewhere around the midpoint of our time working together and never left. I don't know any of my compatriots on this journey, but I like to think that the one thing we have in common is a resistant mind. We're here because we know something; we feel it, but we can't explain it and we can't avoid it. *"Like a splinter in the mind."* *And resistant minds need a guide to find their freedom, even if that freedom is painful and difficult.* The tough feedback, delivered with kindness and humour, that you want from a trusted friend, but they rarely possess the openness to get themselves out of the way, and allow you to have the experience you need.  The solid support you want from a partner, but without the baggage. And the accountability and direction you want from a really good mentor. Working through this process through the lens of business has been especially effective. There's something uniquely confronting about money and business. Something that really holds up the mirror to some deep-seated beliefs about how we understand ourselves and the value of our time and energy. I'm still having my slip-ups and misdirected moments. **But you showed me that the slipping up *is* the training.** And what matters is to catch myself and reset. I'm getting quicker at it. In every case, the thing the client thought was wrong wasn’t the real problem. What looked like a motivation issue was actually the business asking them to operate in a way they don’t sustain. What felt like indecision was really avoidance of a role or action that didn’t fit them. What showed up as inconsistency was a plan that required behaviours they don’t naturally repeat. The [Strategic Friction Diagnostic](/diagnostic) exists to find that underlying mismatch. Not to give you another plan or set of actions, but to show where your business is quietly working against you — in ways you and everyone you’ve worked with may have missed. They’re structured as nurture sequences: timed messages, persuasion arcs, calls to action designed to warm you up and push you forward. They are direct observations drawn from two places: Not written to persuade, but written to record what’s actually happening. Something I keep seeing in the work. A friction point. A structural trap. A behaviour that looks strategic but operates as avoidance. They don’t offer step-by-step advice or frameworks to apply. Each note names the pattern, reframes what's actually going on, and closes with a test: a question designed to cut through the rationalisation and show you whether this one is about you. They're direct. They're short. And they don't offer a soft landing. Field note samples can be read further down this page. Now you're trying to translate it into a business. So you build walls. Professional language. Scientific credibility. Premium positioning. Educational content that demonstrates authority. It's 9pm on a Tuesday. You're rewriting your homepage for the fourth time this month. You read it back and think: *this sounds like everyone else*. But at least it sounds professional. It's what happens when someone with genuine expertise builds layer after layer of credibility, and accidentally buries themselves in the process. The walls don't make you look serious. They make you invisible. Because eventually, you're going to sit across from another human being. On a call. In a meeting. On camera. And they're going to see past all of it. They're not going to connect with your framework or your credentials. They're going to connect with you. Or they're not. Every layer of professional distance creates a gap. Prospects feel it. Something doesn't land. Your positioning looks right. Your content is valuable. And still, they book with someone else. Someone who seems less qualified on paper. But who they felt something with. Think about the best client relationship you've ever had. The one where the work was easy, the results were good, and you actually enjoyed the process. Was it because they were impressed by your positioning? Or was it because they connected with something about how you showed up? If it was the connection, ask yourself what the walls are actually protecting. The thing you're hiding behind isn't protecting you. It's preventing the connection that would actually get you clients. And eventually, you're going to have to show up anyway. Enter your first name and email to receive The Field Notes. **Why Smart People Keep Preparing for a Moment That Never Comes. And What They're Actually Protecting.** "When I've got my positioning sorted, I'll take that meeting." It's Wednesday afternoon. You're staring at the same draft you were staring at last Wednesday. The cursor blinks. Tomorrow you'll find something else that needs fixing first. And underneath it all, a quiet knowing: the preparation isn't actually the point. The preparation is the shelter. It's the invisible line you've convinced yourself exists between where you are now and where you'd need to be before you can act. Every time you approach it, the threshold shifts. The website's done, but now the testimonials aren't right. The positioning's sorted, but now the pricing feels off. The Readiness Threshold isn't a real destination. It's a moving target designed to keep you safe from the thing you're actually afraid of. The moment when preparation ends and you find out what happens when you're actually in the room. Name the specific thing that needs to happen before you can take the action you've been postponing. Now ask yourself: if that thing happened tomorrow, would you actually act? Or would something else need to happen first? If the answer is "well, that, and also..." then you're not preparing. And the protection is costing you more than the exposure ever would. The opportunity you've been preparing for isn't waiting for you to be ready. It's waiting for you to decide that "ready" is a fiction you've been using to stay safe. The question is how much longer you're going to pretend that readiness is what's missing. You're sketching out another new business model. This one feels different. More aligned. You can see why the last ones didn't deliver what you wanted and why this one will. But there's a nagging question at the back of you mind...*What if the problem isn't the business model at all?* A client this week kept asking about different business models. But he's built four businesses in three years. Coaching. SaaS. AI automation. All different vehicles. All trying to solve the same problem. The problem isn't the business model. It's the hole. Everyone's got one. Call it the god-shaped hole if you want. Call it lack. But there's a hole. Some people use relationships. Some people use fitness. Some people use business. Doesn't matter the vehicle. The destination is always the same: "Maybe THIS will complete me." It won't. Not because the business is wrong. Because nothing fills the hole. The hole isn't personal but it is permanent. It's part of the fabric of reality. Think about the last business you walked away from. If the answer involves the business itself: wrong market, bad timing, didn't scale... Ask yourself: Did you leave because those things were true? Or did you leave because the business stopped providing the hit? There's a difference between a business that isn't working and a business that's stopped filling the hole. The second one you abandon for the next thing, even if it was working fine. The freedom isn't in finally finding the right business. It's in accepting the hole exists. And building anyway. But you can stop expecting your business to do something it was never designed to do. Build for the market. Build for the craft. Build for the game of it. It’s called Strategic Friction™ and it requires diagnosing. ([Details Here)](/diagnostic) It’s the invisible tax you pay when the strategy you’re trying to run doesn’t match how you actually operate. It shows up as a gap between the business you think you should build and the one you can sustain. Between the role you’re trying to play and the person you actually are. Between what you think you are meant to achieve and what would actually make you feel alive. The symptoms look like procrastination, overthinking, and burnout. Those aren’t the problem. They’re the effects. Until it’s made visible, effort increases but results don’t. Most solutions in this space focus on **prescriptions**: systems, frameworks, step-by-step methods designed to be applied broadly. I work with founders and solopreneurs whose business depends on their expertise, and who are stuck. Not because they lack ideas or discipline, but because there is a **hidden conflict** between the strategy they’re running and how they actually operate. When the structural conflict driving your results becomes visible, something changes. Execution stops being a matter of willpower. Decisions stop feeling heavy. The next move stops being theoretical. There is no curriculum, no sequence of modules, and no accountability system designed to push you forward. I’m not here to build funnels, write copy, or hand you a positioning framework. We’re not revisiting your past unless it directly explains a present-day constraint affecting performance. I call this methodology **Aletheia Performance™**, based on the ancient Greek idea of truth as *unconcealment,* not correctness, but visibility. Once it is, what to do next usually becomes self-evident. Today, my work is grounded in experience rather than theory. Fifteen years consulting across strategy and execution. And more than a decade working with people at the point where decisions, identity, and consequence meet. Along the way, I trained across coaching, consulting, and therapeutic disciplines. Aletheia is the ancient Greek concept of truth as *unconcealment*. Read about the Strategic Friction Diagnostic and The Outcomes It Delivers. It's because you are running a strategy that doesn't fit how you actually operate. The plan makes sense. The next steps are obvious. You could tell someone else exactly what to do in your situation. But you're not doing it. Or you're doing it and it's not working. Or you keep starting over with a better version of the same approach. That's a structural mismatch between your strategy and how you're actually built. Most people experience this as personal failure. They think they need more accountability, more clarity, more discipline. Over 200+ diagnostic conversations, I've found the real constraint is rarely what people think it is. It's usually one of three friction types, and until you see which one is operating, no amount of strategy fixes anything. I've written a complete breakdown of how Strategic Friction gets diagnosed and what happens when the real constraint becomes visible. Clearer offers. Tighter messaging. More systems. Less procrastination. And the same problems keep showing up wearing different clothes* You’ve known for a while now. Maybe months. Maybe years. You’ve read the books. Done the courses. Hired the coaches. Built the frameworks. And you’re still circling the same issues, just with better vocabulary to describe them. The business looks different. The problems feel the same. This isn’t about discipline. It isn’t about clarity. It isn’t about finding the right strategy. The question nobody’s asking is why you know what you should do, but you keep not doing it. Or why you keep building things that look right on paper, but feel wrong the moment you try to live inside them. That’s not a tactics problem. That’s something else entirely. Here’s what I’ve noticed working with founders, consultants, and advisors over the past 15 years: They’re structural conflicts between the strategy you’re trying to execute and how you actually operate. It’s the gap between what you think the problem is and what the problem actually is. Between who you think you need to be and who you actually are. Between the business you’re building and the business you can sustainably run. And the tricky part? You can’t see it from inside your own system. Strategic Friction explains why smart, capable people stay stuck despite having all the information they need. It’s that they’re unknowingly trying to execute strategies that require a version of themselves that doesn’t exist. They’re building someone else’s business. Using someone else’s playbook. Trying to become someone else entirely. In my work, I’ve found that Strategic Friction shows up in three distinct forms. Understanding which one is operating changes everything. This is when your strategy requires you to be someone you’re not. The positioning looks right. The offer makes sense. The numbers should work. But when you try to execute, something breaks down. Not because the strategy is wrong, but because it demands a version of you that isn’t sustainable. You’ve built a business for who you think you should be, not who you actually are. The person you’re trying to become doesn’t exist. But the person you actually are does. And there’s a business that fits them perfectly. You’re just not building it. This is when your strategy is built on assumptions your life can’t support. The plan makes sense in theory. But it requires time you don’t have, energy you can’t sustain, or resources that aren’t actually available. You keep making plans based on optimistic capacity rather than actual capacity. The numbers don’t lie. But you keep negotiating with them, hoping this time will be different. It won’t be. Not until the plan matches reality instead of fighting it. This is when you know exactly what to do but won’t let yourself do it. The move is obvious. You’ve seen it clearly for months. Maybe years. But something keeps stopping you from actually making it. Not knowledge. Not capability. Something else. This isn’t about discipline or motivation. You’re not giving yourself permission to be who you already are. And until you understand why, no amount of strategy will change anything. You can’t diagnose your own Strategic Friction. Not reliably. Not completely. It’s like trying to see your own blind spot. The whole point is that it’s invisible to you. Your brain has constructed an elaborate system to keep you from seeing it clearly. We’re meaning-making machines. When something doesn’t work, we create explanations that feel true: “I need better marketing.” “I need more discipline.” “I need the right framework.” These explanations protect us from seeing the real issue, which is almost always more uncomfortable than the surface problem. This is why you can read all the right books, do all the right courses, hire all the right people, and still stay stuck. You’re solving the wrong problem with increasing sophistication. The tactics aren’t wrong. They’re just being applied to something that isn’t actually broken. When the real constraint becomes visible, things change. Not because you suddenly have new information. But because you stop wasting energy fighting a problem that isn’t the problem. Decisions speed up. Not because you get better at making them, but because the conflict that was blocking commitment dissolves. Execution becomes reliable. Plans stop resetting. Follow-through becomes normal instead of exceptional. The business starts to fit. You stop building around who you think you should be and start building around what you can actually sustain. This isn’t transformation theatre. It’s clarity. And clarity, it turns out, is most of what’s missing. Here’s a question that tends to reveal which friction type is operating: Think about the last three times you overhauled your strategy. Changed your positioning. Restructured your offers. Reset your systems. Did anything actually change underneath? Or did the same patterns keep showing up in new forms? If you keep circling the same issues with different vocabulary, the problem isn’t the tactics. The problem is something structural that the tactics can’t reach. You need to see what’s actually operating so you can build something that works with it, not against it. If you’ve read this far, something probably landed. Maybe you recognised yourself in one of the friction types. Maybe you’re already arguing with the parts that hit closest to home. Both responses tell you something. You can take this framework and use it to examine your own patterns. Ask yourself honestly which friction type is operating. Look at your business decisions, your repeated strategies, your consistent stalls. See what you see. Some people can do this work on their own. The framework gives you language for something you’ve been sensing but couldn’t name. That might be enough. Or you might want someone outside your system to look at it with you. That’s what the Strategic Friction Diagnostic is designed for. 90 minutes to surface the constraint that’s actually operating, not the one you think is the problem. You get a map of what’s really happening and a brief on what to do about it. Not a programme. Not ongoing coaching. Just diagnostic clarity. If you want that, you can access the full brief below. It explains exactly how the diagnostic works, what you receive, and how to book. I've written a complete breakdown of how Strategic Friction gets diagnosed and what happens when the real constraint becomes visible.
